Sportvisserij Nederland, together with various partner organizations, is conducting research on different fish species. As part of this, fish are often marked and tagged. This allows important data to be collected through reports from both recreational and commercial fishermen after catches, providing information on the size and distribution of fish stocks.
Through this page, you can report catches of sharks, rays, seabass, perch, and other marked fish species (see the reporting form below). Catch reports are only used for scientific research. Moreover, (special) catch reports are often rewarded! For example, reports of tagged spotted smooth-hound sharks are rewarded with a Sharkatag T-shirt.

In the research of sharks and rays, it is also important to indicate whether the catch is a male or a female when reporting. This can be done very easily: to determine the sex of the shark or ray, take look at its belly. A male has two finger-like ‘claspers’ between the pelvic fins. The claspers are absent on the females.
